Do you reckon the website design swaps to Christmas automatically at the start of December?

I can only speak from my point of view as a Team Member who doesn't/can't update the main website. But there hasn't been a whole lot of news since the track arriving and what classes as "news" isn't always perceved as news by some.

I do agree the main site doesn't look brilliant with the last news story being in September.

I have always considered ATA to be a source of "major" news: i.e. if there's a genuinely major event/news item comes up, ATA tend to publish it - and often first. For the more "week to week" news stories, (apologies if this is seen as a plug, but it really isn't meant to be) then Towers Times main site is more regular. Towers Nerd seems to be somewhat in between the two.

For 7 years plus, every closed winter season, people start to seem to set upon other people just because updates dont come though regularly. Its not even like the "friendly competative nature" between forumscan happen to the degree when the park is open as to when parks are closed, everyone is in the same situation. Appart from the odd news story in the press, the welcomed photo on Alton Towers flickr group concerning construction updates and the odd thing that Towers may release as a press statement, is there any point in having a go at each other during closed seasons? We have only got to wait till Feb half term for our next adrenaline rush for thoes who cant afford to go abroad.

This is different though. There are no new threads appearing (pretty much) and there's been no new members (that have contributed anything) for a good while now. 2009 has been a bit of a drought in terms of content as well.

The more I think about it, the more I think this place is slowly winding down. Perhaps it's time to embrace that? Lock up the forums, 'archive' the site so it's all still there and shut up shop?

Speaking personally, I would prefer that to a 2002-2005 situation, where everything (except, somehow, the forums) was stagnant.

It takes a lot of work to run a site like ATA. When I was first signed up in 2005, I was young and fresh out of college. Building websites was what I wanted to do, so naturally I was keen and wanted to help. So we rebuilt it from scratch, and then we did it again the next year.

The system we have in place now should mean that I'm not needed anymore, which is handy as I have very little time these days. I'm now a director of a company so little pleasures like ATA tend to fall by the wayside. I'd like to say that I'd come back to do a redesign and development of ATA, but the facts are that I probably won't.

However, the main savour for a site like this is the content. Up to now, if we're all completely honest, we've relied souly on Dan producing this for us. I'm sure he's just having a bit of a step back. Life tends to get in the way eventually.

I hope ATA doesn't die, I really do, but can I promise it won't? No..

Tom

Or at least volunteer to help out a bit smile.gif

To add to the above, it would be nice if someone could just post a news item that the Park is now open and that Thirteen has been officially unveiled.

The site doesnt need a lot of updating to keep it 'live' and it would seem a real shame that all of the excellent work / information contained on it should go to waste - but a dead website front end with out of date news, tends to put people off visiting it.

I'm definately not volunteering for anything though!!!! laugh.gif

Is there anyone out there........?

While my chain only allows me to reach as far as the galleries I am always willing to help out the rest of the team when I can.
