QUOTE (bKangy @ Mar 11 2005, 11:23 PM)
The only quote that suggests a powerful machine is the first, and that doesn't actually say it's more powerful than Xenon and the PS3. Just a line that can interpretted many different ways.

Not possible how? Not possible on a GC? Not possible on a PC? Not possible with our current comprehension?
*

Exactly what I was thinking. Also alot of the other comments suggest they will make a better console that is less powerful than the rivals.

Very interesting topic that can just run and run, my opinions on which is better is down to game distribution quality, thats why in the past the playstation has always been my first choice console.

I actually own a Gamecube, Playstation 2 and Xbox, and ive played the playstation most of all, I expect I will buy all three of the next releases but I can almost definately say the playstation 3 will be the first purchase.

Im looking foward to getting my hands on the new PSP before I start thinking about these three new consoles, portable Grand Theft Auto.. do I need to say anymore.

Well... I believe we have discovered Nintendo's Revolution. And to be honest... im fairly excited.

Firstly, heres the premise:

"3D touch software, enables people to experience a realistic sense of touch on their computer, fundamentally transforming how they play and interact. Imagine having the ability to touch and feel things on your computer - to touch a piece of sandpaper and feel its gritty surface against your fingertip - to feel the force of a golf club as it swings and connects with a ball - or to feel the turns and bumps as a snowboard races down a hill.

The Novint Falcon adds the third sense, three-dimensional touch to computer interactions, motivating an evolution in video games and creating significant new opportunities for existing and emerging mass market applications.

The Novint Falcon is the only consumer device to provide three-dimensional, high fidelity force feedback. Unlike any consumer force feedback product on the market, the Novint Falcon enables users to move right and left, forward and backwards, like they do with other devices, plus up and down. Users can now experience a full range of realistic touch sensations including shape, texture, weight and dynamics."

Now the demonstration video: http://www.demo.com/demo2/demonstrators/video/novint.asx
Not for 56K!

It is developed by a company called 'Novint Technology' and they have already claimed to have licenced the technology to a leading video game company *cough* Nintendo...

NOTE: This thing DOES exist. Whether Nintendo have anything to do with it is just a very strong rumour. It would fit perfectly with the claim of "A revolutionary way in which we play games" and also the rumoured Nintendo Revolution Slogan - "Touching is good, feeling is better.". Also, the fact that the manufacturer have stated they have sold the licence to a leading video game company basically confirms it.

The company also claim that it will take over the mouse as the primary PC controller. "It does everything a mouse does, but in 4D. Once you've used one for a while, you will never be able to go back to using traditional controllers."

If it works the way it looks like it should, then im very impressed. I was expecting a touch screen controller similar to the DS, where each game can have its own button configuration specialised for the way the game works. This is much more impressive.

It's very impressive but I don't understand how he was playing golf with that pen thing? Or did I miss another controller.

I'd heard that a touch controller had been/was being developed but I hadn't made the link to Nintendo. I think for it to be a success they would have to have it as a standard feature and make sure the games take full advantage just so I doesn't seem like a gimmick.

I can understand that but tbh I don't know how great that would be. Also the basketball and snowboarding seem odd. When I last went skiing I don't remember being able to feel the snow through my hands like it says in the presentation. What benefit would that give to my game? Perhaps I just want too much from it, I agree it is still better than a bit of vibration.

Sounds annoying. I'd hate to play an FPS with it, and it'll alienate a lot of developers resulting in a smaller catalogue.

The pen is the prototype version made specifically for the PC to replace the Mouse. Nintendo will more than likely just implement the technology into a specifically designed pad.

I think this thing would be Perfect for First person Shooters. just move forward, and you move forward. Left and you go left. And, since it actually has the weight and feel of the gun, imagine the recoil of a shotgun as the thing you're holding literally jumps backs. The rapid movements of a machine gun... etc etc I think a First Person Shooter would be amazing.

There seems to be very little talk about the PSP here! The PSP can display photos, video clips, movies (UMD only), Digital music and WiFi gaming! It is without a doubt 100x better than the DS!

lets be honest, if they really wanted to make summat that would sell then all they would have to do is make something like an x box but with a proper o/s on it, a keyboard, a monitor a mouse and voila, instant fortune made.

it isnt like it isnt possible, they have been hacked to do it for ages now.

I will be amazed if one of the three dosent use this time to make the final leap between computers and game machines, lets be honest they are usually more powerfull than what alot of us are using.

Im not too sure if this has been confirmed, if not its a strong rumour, but the Xbox 360 apparently has 2 VDU sockets to be used simultaneously... one for a TV and one for a monitor.

Some shots of a next gen game. Wow. Remember launch games for the PS2 compared to the graphics they have now... imagine what next gen will be able to produce in 4 or 5 years time if this is what they're doing now!

Who cares if that game 'plays like crap'? Im not particularly looking forward to this game, its just showing us what we can expect graphics wise. If it 'plays like crap', then fair enough, but its unlikely this will be the only game to look like this, and not all games will 'play like crap'. Its also unlikely that this will be the best looking game at launch.
