What I would like to see is a a massive dome that covers the whole of Alton Towers; what that would mean is that it allows the theme park to open all year round and so could boost profits in the long run. What do you reckon?

I think the cost of building such a dome would outweigh any profits gained by opening for a couple of extra months.

...plus you would never get the wonderful scenes which I saw a few years ago - a snow covered Alton Towers, very very dangerous but I wouldn't have missed that for anything!

They should forget a dome but just keep it open anyway, a winter theme would be nice, the cold and rain won't stop everybody!

I think the park inside the dome would need to be very well ventilated so lots of powerful ventilation units and air conditioning while keeping the birds, animals and trees. But yeah, the management will need to think it through very carefully because not enough ventilation will put potential customers off, but too much ventilation during the winter will mean customers freezing to death... ohmy.gif

cost, ventilation etc aside... it would never work because something like that would be very visible, if it had to cover everything. wouldn't get through planning permission.

And who wants an Indoor Alton Towers anyway?

Maybe for a little while, but it would get very dirty, very fast tongue.gif and anyway, the support structure would have to be very strong, lots of steel supports all over, and they would be visible!

also It wouldn't glass magnify the light, and heat Alton to an insane heat?
