Just thought I would put T-Park on the list of adverts again. After cocking the site up time and time again I finally have a 'finished' product I can be proud of. Anybody who fancies popping by (just to get my hit count up a bit!) let me know if you find something not working.....also, the main aim of this advert is:

I finally have tons of photos on the site again (with many more still to come....) and I keep tweaking the photo galleries with little bits and bobs, but now I want some ideas to add to the site - something I can really get my brain working on, you know the kind of stuff, something which takes a hell of a lot of coding which will result in my screen being punched after I leave a semi-colon out tongue.gif

So, any ideas for something to add to, let me know smile.gif

Oh, the important bit - Linky

Just after a few testers.....I have created a user registration/logon script. I have gone through it, but I obviously know how it works and what to do, so if you have 2 minutes do you mind having a look at:

http://www.tpark.co.uk/RegisterPt1.php

Simply go through the form, it will send you an e-mail to activate the user account, then on:

http://www.tpark.co.uk

you will notice a logon box towards the right hand side, stick your username and password in there and make sure it all logs on OK. It will take you to an upload page, but don't use it just yet, I will be emptying the database when it is fully working, I will also be emptying the user account database just before it goes live, this is just a test and no details will be kept.

If there are any problems or comments please let me know smile.gif

Thanks.

Just had a look and your details were registered. What are you using to read your e-mails/what provider are you with eg google, yahoo, hotmail, or some ISP?

Thanks.

Right, been working on the login bit for a bit now, but the new cleaner design got finished 1st so I have got that working now.

Just wanting people to take a look and let me know what you think, I have cleaned it up, the home page is less cluttered and I finally have all of my photos on there.

There are now 3085 photos from 44 different parks including:
Adventure Island;
Alton Towers;
American Adventure;
Barry Island;
Belmont Park;
Blackgang Chine;
Coney Beach;
Disney World;
Disneyland;
Paultons;
Metroland

among others!

New design for the site looks great smile.gif

I like the little flags you have to say where the parks are, they are great! Did you make them yourself?

You have loads of great photos, you must of really put a lot of time and effort into your site smile.gif

Thanks Hex, much appreciated smile.gif

I didn't make the little flags, they came from some free icon site....I started making the flags but got annoyed with some of the small details so downloaded them tongue.gif

I do put far too much time into the site.....but now its fully working I can take some time off and leave it alone tongue.gif

Thank you. The thing I have to do with it now is leave it be......I keep messing about with it and breaking it, so thats it now, I ain't going to break it again!

There are a few little issues I have noticed with the layout which should be easy to fix, but somebody is paying me to do another website at the moment, so T-Park can wait a little bit smile.gif

Just out of interest, how does T-Park work. Do you have a back end to your site where you do the editing from? Or do you edit the files off line on your computer, and then upload them?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

The whole site is PHP with a mysql back end.

The news feed is from the database, at the moment I input the news articles via SQLyog or from PHPMyAdmin. This is also how the closed rides feed will work. I was writting a admin back end to pretty it all up but that fell apart and I couldn't be bothered to write it again!

The photo gallery is now so much simpler but I have less control over. I used to upload all of the photos I wanted then the gallery page would reference a mysql table and only display photos from there, which was fine, but a nightmare to recreate when I mucked it up (can you see a theme running here tongue.gif ) so now it just looks at the folders and displays what is in there....simples smile.gif

Thanks for your reply smile.gif
Sounds complicated! tongue.gif

So basically for the text on the site, you write it straight into the database? The photo's sound a big less complicated than the rest tongue.gif

I'm trying to learn PHP at the moment, seems quite simple. Probably makes it easier, because I know a lot of HTML already, so it doesn't look to difficult smile.gif

SQL databases confuse me though tongue.gif

Its not that complicated really.....much less coding and as long as the database is set up its quite simple.

This is how the news feed works:

Database Setup

Field Setup - Field(Type)
ID (Int)
Date (Date)
Park (Text)
Title (Text)
Picture (Text)
Story (Text)
Link (Text)

Then the PHP is simple:

CODE
<h1>Top Story</h1>
<?php include ("Connectors/ContentConnector.php");
$News_Query = "SELECT * FROM News ORDER BY Date DESC, ID DESC LIMIT 1";
$News_Result = mysql_query($News_Query) or die ("Database Error");
while ($News_Row = mysql_fetch_array($News_Result)) {
  $Date = $News_Row['Date'];
  $Title = $News_Row['Title'];
  $Picture = $News_Row['Picture'];
  $Story = $News_Row['Story'];
  $Link = $News_Row['Link'];
  list ($Year, $Month, $Day) = split ('[-]', $Date);
  echo "
  <div class='MainHeadlingPicture'><img src='http://www.tpark.co.uk/News/Images/$Picture.jpg'></div>
  <div class='MainHeadlingStory'>
  <p><h3>$Title</h3>$Day/$Month/$Year<br>
  <p>$Story<br>
  <a href='$Link' target='new'>Original Article...</a></p>
  </div></p><div class='Clear'></div>
  <div class='NewsText'>
  </div>";
}
?>

It may look scary, and there may be better ways to do that, but this works for me.....I will tell you that a lot of my knowledge came from:

http://www.tizag.com/mysqlTutorial/
and
http://www.tizag.com/phpT/

They are really good sites that put it all in straight forward tutorials.

First of all I apologise for taking this topic way off topic tongue.gif

Meames thanks for those links, been going through the MYSQL tutorial, it is a good tutorial and I've so far managed to make a page that adds to the database, and one that extracts the data from it and puts it onto the page smile.gif

Plus I now roughly understand what the code you posted does smile.gif I think that once you've got the hang of setting the database up, it's loads easier than doing everything manually. Might make my site entirely by myself rather than using a ready built CMS smile.gif

Thats the way to do it.....the way I learnt was to take 1 script which did what I wanted (whatever that was), work out how it is working and re-write it. I took it from there, and I don't pretend to be an expert in any way shape or form but I think I do have a good grasp on how it all works.

Sometimes it can be really difficult, but I havn't found anything yet which couldn't be worked out.....the trick is to think of the final goal then split it down into the different parts, ie....a content management system I was working on, do the entire code for adding new data, get that working in full, then do the code for editing existing data (which is very similar) and put it together.

I (rather sadly) find it really exciting to come home, turn on the computer and think of what I want to accomplish in the end......go down the rocky road of semi colons and brackets (you will understand when you get into it!) and come out with a working piece of code.

If you need any help let us know, I will do what I can to help you out....and all of the PHP forums out there are friendly and most of all free smile.gif

Thanks, if I need any help i'll drop you a PM smile.gif

I know what you mean about coming home, thinking of what you want to accomplish tongue.gif I used to be like that when I was doing a lot of Visual Basic and C laugh.gif

You kind of get trapped in a programming rut, where you keep having to do coding all the time, just to satisfy yourself smile.gif

I've got plenty of the time at the moment to get into it, so i'll keep you updated with my progress smile.gif

After realising I have a stupid amount of old leaflets I decided to share them on my site....that is until theme parks notice and ask me to take them down tongue.gif

Anyway, I am building the collection up each day, and the page is http://tpark.co.uk/leaflets.php
