I find it quite cool the way that the gardens etc haven't really changed that much.

The cable car looks rather sketchy to say the least though!

I've added the 1957 souvenir guide to the galleries, courtesy once again of Marc, who had to prod me to remind me to get round to sorting it. unsure.gif Apologies Marc!

On page 8, item number 13 on the map is a petrol pump - is that where Towers Street is now?

I think that's on the corner of the Courtyard, near-ish to where The Flume entrance is now. Towers Street is around about where 27 is on that map.

Thanks! I love them too. I got the 1st one (green cover) from ebay and the rest I got from a site called Alton Towers Memories, which is another great site to have a look at. smile.gif
Bought a couple of more recent guide yesterday so hopefully we'll see them on the site soon. smile.gif

Hi Clara, the folder contains emails and information about the haunted house, from people who have been in touch either through my web site or stuff I have found out. Most of the information and pictures are going to be available on the new website. The Website should be done soon but work commitments are holding me back.

Ah, the good old days, when you could contact them on "telephone no 7 Uttoxeter" and children's admission cost sixpence. blink.gif

But they were charging for park maps back then.

I think you'll find, Dan, that you would end up speaking to M Z Waddicor, proprietress of the Alton Towers Café in Alton. rolleyes.gif

Damn! I was trying to get through to Miss Johnson of the Swiss Cottage and Gardener's Cottage, to enquire about their luncheons, teas and moderate prices. sad.gif

Yes, you too can read about "Alton Towers - The fantasy of Disneyland, the heritage of England". biggrin.gif
