Well I was supposed to go to Alton today but because of horrible traffic on the M25 I didn't make it and went to Thorpe Park instead (see Rush review topic for a trip report). I probably won't be going until August now though sad.gif

Rita opened at just before 1pm today. I was lucky as I happened to be near the enterance to it as it opened. I still had to wait 10 minutes in the rain though as they only had 1 car on. After that we went over to Cariba Creek as we had our swimming things in the car. As we were walking down the steps to the reception an announcement came over the tannoy to evacuate the building then all the alarms went off. Everyone had to leave including the people in the pool (who had to stand outside in the rain in their swim suits.) People were given thermal blankets to wear though and the staff were great helping people. I'm not sure if it was a drill or something had happened but the emergency services turned up. Anyone know anything about this?

Hi

I was in the waterpark all day today and the fire alarm sounded, we all had to leave the water but we could stay in the building it sounded preaty real to us and the air in the waterpark started to get slightly misty, but after about a hour we were aloud back in, but apart from that it was a great day out.

Matt

Funny that... Rita today, after various technical difficulties, opened at 11:50 - I joined the queue immedieatly, and was on in five minutes. It hurt in the rain.

Odd, they normally issue them from the front onwards - since if you're at the front you will have been waiting the longest, and therefore likely to be the most disgruntled person being evacuated. Should have kicked up more of a fuss!

If the emergency services turned up then it would be real. If it was just the park's security/ambulance service then it may have been real or a false alarm.

I'm not sure what the policy is in the hotels, but I don't believe they would do a full evacuation as part of any fire drill - and certainly not with people in the swimming pools on a day when it's cold and raining.
