JUNE 16TH 2006 : ALTON TOWERS HOTEL TO LAUNCH 'SLEEPOVER SUITE'

The Alton Towers Hotel is set to launch the UK's first 'sleepover suite', sponsored by Superdrug.

Replacing the former Oblivion themed room, the sound-proofed, six-sleeping suite will be a delight for girls of all ages. Hotel Brand Manager Sarah Dixon said, "It’s incredibly exciting to be launching yet another ‘first’ at the Hotels. It will be fantastic – think pink, pyjamas, films and dance mats, and you’re along the right lines!”. She went on to say, “It will be fitted with all the necessities to create a fabulous sleepover party for seven to 14-year-olds or even hen parties.”

Some of those necessities include:

*sound system
*multi-nozzle power shower
*disco ball
*six mirrors and stools
*make-up and beauty products
*hair curlers
*a plasma screen TV
*dance mats
*karaoke
*a pink Smeg fridge

The sleepover suite launches on July 7th, 2006.

What do you think?

I think it's a bit strange saying it's designed for females when (I think) Alton Towers don't allow all

male / female groups to stay at the hotels - unless this rule has changed now?

Anyway I think they should of themed the room on Rita or Air.

Anyway what do you think?

Smeg is certainly a necessity at any sleepover. smile.gif

if you hired the room out for a party, how much would it cost? if you wanted to have a party in there, you must have very rich parents. and also- can the 7 year olds stay in there on their own? my mum wouldn't trust me and i'm 15!

but still, it's a good idea! biggrin.gif
aru
So they've dropped the Roald Dahl room then?
Swampster
Daft idea if you ask me, alienating half of the potential users of a room right from the start... unless..

they're going to create a "Lads Night In Room".. full of beer fridges (stocked), xboxes, action DVD's, scalextrix, table soccer and porn mags! wink.gif
Wez
The room sounds totally lame. It's going to be tacky beyond belief. Hardly a luxury suite either. Hair curlers and a fridge!!!!! Living the high life!

Here's the accompanying photo:

The room looks alright, but I preferred it as the Oblivion suite. tongue.gif You know, back in the days when not every suite was an excuse for a corporate sponsorship deal.

Oh well, at least there's still the Neme... oh, no, wait.
Gem
Ewww.

They're not just alienating half the potential guests. I wouldn't stay in there. Not even for the multi-nozzle power shower, plasma screen TV and the smeg.

And they're doing a room aimed at teenage girls with just one bathroom? Do they have any idea how long it will take for all of them to get through it? mellow.gif

It'll depend on how ugly and/or spotty they are I guess.
DragonGuardian
I think they should have more ride suites they look much better.
Fright Time
Woah. Bad Idea. I would have prefered the Oblivion Suite anyday! But I think a room themed around Air would be really cool- because they could make the Bed look like a Cloud. FUN!
But yeah, a Rita room wouldn't be very good- because they'd have to have Hot Chicks walking around, and loads of fast cars everywhere.
John
It'll make money.

I just can't get it out of my twisted mind that theirs something inherently creepy about the whole concept. And aren't they all going to stay, up talking about nail painting and boys? Bad idea girls, your up at 8 sharp for breakfast and Early Rider!

Yeah why is there not a lad's room? It does sound a bit of a strange 'themed' room as it means a group of noisy girls will probably turn up to the hotel.

A press release by the park yesterday about the new suite:

QUOTE
The Ultimate Girls’ Night In Paradise Arrives At Alton Towers:
The UK’s First Themed Sleepover Suite

Think pink pajama parties and marathon chick flick sessions, as the UK’s first ever Sleepover Suite opens this July at the Alton Towers Hotel. The specially themed room has been created to hold the ultimate girls’ night-in, where up to six friends can share an evening of deluxe, unadulterated and uninterrupted fun.

With design input from tween-aged girls, the new Sleepover Suite, in association with Superdrug, takes the trend for outsourcing kids’ parties and social soirées to a new level. Research had shown that parents were keen to take the mess and noise of holding sleepover parties out of the home – just as externally held birthday parties have become a huge market, so Alton Towers has set out to deliberately design the perfect sleepover suite to bridge what appears to be a gap in the market. The focus group highlighted some absolute “must haves” - very loud pop music, make up and styling products galore, movie marathons plus party food, sweets and fizzy drinks on tap and a lot more – all of which will be an integral part of the suite.

The prettily pink suite has been sound-proofed for wild abandonment and features wall to wall mirrored theatre style dressing tables, complete with luxurious pampering products courtesy of Superdrug, for those all-essential girlie make-up sessions. The walk in shower room is like having your own spa – it is a total multi-sensory experience on its own, complete with multi-jet shower and en-suite music.

The layout of the Sleepover Suite is perfect for that girlie get-together. The suite is divided into two – one room being a party on its own – featuring the latest home entertainment system, a plasma TV and with mini-dance floor and karaoke area. The second half of the suite is set up for those cozy pajama-clad gossips with cleverly designed Chill-outä beds. The funky, bright pink beds from Silentnight are the perfect place for girlie chats and are within easy reach of that all important accessory for midnight feasts – the pink Smeg fridge filled up with ice cream, chocolate and other edible delights!

This is the latest suite to be added to the Alton Towers Hotel and is a pilot scheme which has been designed in line with the huge trend in the UK for sleepovers.

The Sleepover suite will open on July 7th and is priced from £300. To book call 0870 990 9105 or go online www.altontowers.com.

Tween-aged? Is that some clever word-play I'm just not clued up on, or is it a typo?

"The walk in shower room is like having your own spa – it is a total multi-sensory experience on its own". Where have I heard that "multi-sensory experience" line before? Ah yes, in press releases about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Ride.
So presumably this means that some cupboards in the bathroom will be painted all black and left empty, the lighting will be really dark, the shower will only work intermittently (and then drench you when you're not expecting it) and if there is a shower radio, it'll play too quietly or not at all. tongue.gif

Erm... am I the only one that thinks that sounds just a wee bit pervy?

Mind you, I think I'd like a multi-sensory experience myself. When does the Lads Room open?

It's not a typo smile.gif It's a term for someone who isn't a teenager (ages 10-12) but likes to act as if they were...

“must haves” - very loud pop music
  1. Blimey I feel sorry for the people in the room next door!
  2. No-one is going to pay for 6 people to stay in Alton Towers just for a sleepover.
  3. Just a generally pointless room!

The room is (apparently) sound proof.

It is a bit of a strange idea though, I do agree with that!
WillPS
Call me a sissy, but this room looks really cool in my eyes. I wouldn't see it as a premium thing though, I mean look at it, I've seen something like that at IKEA. And if that bed's an IKEA bed, then I don't bloody trust it!

The irony is I could probably go to IKEA and Boots, buy all the crap and still have only spent a little more than a night in that room.

Any idea how much it costs for a night in there?
Dan
Another photo of the new suite has been released:

It could almost be a caption competition in its own right, really. tongue.gif

The girls didnt like the look of the new woodie! Sorry couldnt resist! happy.gif
Dan
I was thinking more along the lines of, "After staying in the new Sleepover Suite at the Alton Towers Hotel, the girls are presented with the bill".
John
Is it just me, or do they actually all look about 30?
Cjw
They all look like Halifax bank workers, yeah.

I forgot to post these sooner - more photos of the suite from the staff newsletter last week:

The UK's first ever Sleepover Suite was officially opened last Friday at the Alton Towers Hotel.
Sponsored by Superdrug, it has already attracted national media attention (watch out for the review in this Saturday's Daily Mail!). It's also caused a stir with guests. Project champion and Hotels Brand Manager Sarah Dixon said: "There are only a few nights out of the next two months that it's not booked out - it's just brilliant!
Replacing the former Oblivion themed room, the sound-proofed suite sleeps six (but has two interconnecting rooms so could accommodate up to 14 in total) and is kitted out with all the necessities to create a fabulous sleepover party for all ages including hen parties. The bathroom features a sound system and multi nozzle power shower, while the lounge area features six mirrors and stools, make-up and beauty products galore, hair curlers, straighteners and dryers. Then there's the plasma screen TV with entertainments system offering chick-flicks, girlie sounds, PlayStation or karaoke plus a dance floor and a pink Smeg fridge!
Sarah started work on the project in December last year and is delighted with the end result. "It's even better then I'd imagined. Seeing it on the plan is one thing but the finished product is something else! It's going to be a real winner with our guests and rightly so. I'd like to say a big thank you to Studios - they've done an amazing job in a really short space of time, and Housekeeping too have been fabulous, making all the wonderful finishing touches."

You can now see a 360° panorama of the room.

Three new promo shots:

What strikes me is that the original photo that appeared in The Source makes it look like the suite is huge, when it isn't really. Clever use of camera lenses? Trick of the light? No, they just used a totally different room for the mockup. tongue.gif

Funny how the Oblivion suite was removed huh? Possibly an insight into the minds of Alton, maybe they were worried about the Ropers case?!?!

Or it could just be the Oblivion room was crap smile.gif

So in true Tussauds stylee........They make it craper! GENIUS!
